THE MISSION‍

To own the creative execution and performance of long-form YouTube videos for Matt Gray and Founder OS by:

  • Maximizing retention, AVD, and view performance
  • Executing a refined, cinematic, lifestyle-first aesthetic
  • Applying YouTube psychology through editing decisions, not gimmicks
  • Contributing systems, templates, and repeatable workflows back into the team

You will report directly to the Lead YouTube Producer & Head of Video, Memo, and operate within brand and aesthetic standards set by Matt Gray.

OUTPUT & SCOPE

  • Baseline output: 2 long-form YouTube videos per month // (1 edit every ~2 weeks)
  • Primary format: Talking head + cinematic B-roll + tasteful motion graphics
  • Occasional formats (earned, not guaranteed):
    • Cinematic vlogs
    • Screen-share systems
    • Multi-cam whiteboard mentor sessions

This role scales only after trust is earned.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

You own the performance of the videos you edit.

This includes responsibility for:

  • Average View Duration (AVD)
  • Retention curves (especially first 30–90 seconds)
  • Overall view performance relative to channel baseline

You will: ✅

  • Edit long-form YouTube videos with retention and performance in mind
  • Make intentional pacing, visual reset, and emphasis decisions
  • Apply YouTube psychology through:
    • Pattern interrupts
    • Attention resets
    • Strategic visual reinforcement
  • Maintain strict adherence to FounderOS & Matt Gray brand standards
  • Hit deadlines consistently, this is a trust-based role
  • Document and templatize workflows, animations, and systems
  • Share SOPs (Docs + Looms) back into the team
  • Actively contribute to post-production strategy conversations

You will not: ❌

  • Chase trends for novelty
  • Over-edit to “prove effort”
  • Work in isolation
  • Disappear after delivery

ROLE SCORECARD (THIS IS HOW YOU’RE EVALUATED)

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

  • Retention curves outperform or stabilize above channel baseline
  • Clear improvement in AVD over time
  • Zero aesthetic drift from brand standards
  • On-time delivery, every time
  • Creative decisions backed by logic, not ego
  • Reusable systems contributed back into the team
  • Increasing trust and creative autonomy over time

COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE

  • Per-edit compensation: positioned as premium and selective
  • Expectation: 2 edits per month minimum
  • Compensation scales with:
    • Output
    • Trust
    • Performance contribution
  • Long-term contractor role with intent to become full-time after sustained engagement (~12 months)

This is not a freelance gig.

This is a role designed to grow into a creative home.

WHO THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR

This role is NOT for you if:

  • You juggle many clients and want “just another edit”
  • You need rigid instructions to feel safe
  • You want to edit, deliver, and disappear
  • You struggle with direct feedback
  • You miss deadlines and explain why

IDEAL BACKGROUND

  • Experience editing YouTube videos with 500K–1M+ views
  • Long-term collaboration with a creator or brand
  • Strong internal YouTube consumption habits
  • Editorial taste you can clearly articulate

QUICK SELF-CHECK: SHOULD YOU APPLY?

Before applying, ask yourself HONESTLY…

  • Do I think about YouTube performance while editing?
Not just “does this look good,” but:
    • retention curves
    • attention resets
    • pacing decisions that keep viewers watching
  • Is restraint part of my taste?
    • I’m comfortable not adding effects.
    • I understand that Apple-level clarity and A24-style cinematics beat flashy transitions.
    • I don’t rely on over-editing to create value.
  • Can I own a video’s outcome, not just its delivery?
    • I’m willing to be measured on:
      1. watch time
      2. Retention
      3. Views
  • Am I comfortable with direct feedback and clear authority lines?
    I can:
    • defend creative decisions logically
    • execute feedback quickly
    • respect final calls without ego
    • If I struggle with blunt feedback or miss deadlines, this role is not a fit.
  • Do I want a long-term creative home, not a quick freelance win?
    I’m excited by:
    • building systems and templates
    • collaborating deeply with a team
    • growing inside one brand over time
    • If I’m juggling many clients or looking for quick edits, this isn’t for me.

NEXT STEPS

Applicants must answer in a LOOM VIDEO:

  1. Share 1–2 YouTube edits you’ve done and explain why they performed.
  2. Walk through 1-2 YouTube channels and the strategy you believe is working for them
  3. Why does this role appeal to you long-term?
  4. Share the link to your portfolio.
